Bhopal: Sometimes in politics, a few brief words can do what a lengthy statement cannot: trigger a full-blown political war.
This is exactly what happened on Sunday when Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal pointedly asked the BJP’s new national president, Nitin Nabin, “Who are you?”
The sharp, satirical jibe from Kejriwal came in response to a post shared by the BJP on X (formerly Twitter).
In that post, Nabin had criticized Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav, and Kejriwal regarding allegations of donation theft (chanda chori) linked to the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

Kejriwal’s dismissive retort quickly sparked a wave of mixed reactions online.
Some netizens even drew parallels to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s famous past remark dismissing Union Home Minister Amit Shah by asking, “Who is Amit Shah?”
Nitin Nabin was in Lucknow on Sunday to mobilize the party cadre ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh state assembly elections.
During his visit, he actively sought to undermine the Opposition’s sustained attacks against the BJP, RSS, and VHP over the Ayodhya donation controversy.

While Nabin’s primary goal was strengthening booth-level party units, political observers viewed his visit as a damage-control exercise.
The Sangh Parivar has recently found itself cornered after trust employees were implicated in the alleged theft—especially since the trust was established by the BJP-led Central government and features several trustees with RSS and VHP backgrounds.
The official BJP post quoting its national president stated: “I wish to say to Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav, and Kejriwal: do not consider the Hindu religion so weak that you will succeed in misleading people. When your own people insult Hindu deities, you remain silent. The people of UP and the country will never tolerate an insult to Sanatan.”
Tagging that exact post, Kejriwal simply replied: “Who are you?”
The retort opened the floodgates on social media.
An X user named Suryavanshi commented, “Arrogance is not good for you. A few months back Mamata Banerjee made a similar remark, ‘Who is Amit Shah?’ She got her reply in 2026.”
Another user, Dr. Rohit Upadhyay, chimed in: “He is the national president of the world’s largest party and a member of the Rajya Sabha. But brother, who are you? A defeated MLA?”
Adding fuel to the fire, Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma—a Cabinet Minister in Delhi’s BJP government—mocked Kejriwal by writing, “Rashtriya adhyaksh to bahut badi baat hai, main yaad hun ki nahi?” (A national president is a massive deal, but do you even remember me?).

Verma’s comment carried a sting, referencing the high-profile 2025 Delhi assembly elections where he famously defeated the former Chief Minister in his own constituency.
