Bhopal: Vidisha collector Anshul Gupta on Thursday regretted and apologised for an abusive language he allegedly used against a tribal students government hostel superintendent during an inspection reportedly on Wednesday.

The hostel is situated at Ganjbasoda in Vidisha district.

In the video clip posted on Thursday on social networking and microblogging site X, the 2016 batch IAS officer is heard saying, “I regret for certain words that I should not have used and apologise if my words have hurt anyone’s sentiments.”

He said he got emotional upon finding some irregularities during the inspection to the hostel situated at Udaipur village in Ganjbasoda tehsil of Vidisha district.

Earlier, during the inspection, as seen in  a video clip that also went viral, at the hospital the collector is seen making some queries with the hostel superintendent, losing his temper in presence of a number of other people and saying “Do joote marunga (I will hit you with shoe twice)”.

It is reported that there was no inmate of the hostel present when the collector reached the hostel for the inspection.

When he reportedly inquired about absence of the students with the hostel superintendent Chain Singh the latter told the collector that since there was a holiday declared by the collector himself for classes one to five due to severe cold wave the students had gone home, hence their absence.

As a video of the abusive language went viral on social media the hostel superintendent who belongs to a scheduled caste wrote to chief minister Dr Mohan Yadav demanding action against the collector while alleging the collector used abusive language against him during the inspection.

The video sparked widespread outrage on social media with calls for action against the collector.
