The union minister said on the microblogging and social networking site X on Wednesday afternoon, “In a transformative step towards hassle-free highway travel, we are introducing a FASTag-based Annual Pass priced at ₹3,000, effective from 15th August 2025. By reducing wait times, easing congestion, and minimizing disputes at toll plazas, the Annual Pass aims to deliver a faster and smoother travel experience for millions of private vehicle owners.”

So, the FASTag-based Annual Pass worth ₹3,000 will remain valid for: Either: 1 year from the date of activation Or: Until you complete 200 trips, whichever comes first.
For example, if you are travelling from Bangaluru to Hyderabad, the one-way journey covering all toll plazas along the route will be considered one trip. A round trip (up & down) will therefore count as two trips.”
There were several such posts which suggested that the minister’s first post on the Fastag annual pass for Rs 3000 led many people to believe that irrespective of the number of journeys in a year that have to pay Rs 3000 only.
Later, in a video shared on X Gadkari said one trip meant one toll plaza. Hence, 200 trips meant 200 toll plazas.
