The semi-decomposed body of Raja Raghuvanshi (30) was recovered at 11.48 am on Monday from a gorge near Wei Sawdong Falls in Sohra (Also known as Cherrapunji) in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district whose headquarters is Shillong, the capital city of the state. Raja’s wife Sonam (27) is still missing and a search operation is on for her. The Couple was on a honeymoon trip to this North-East state.
Bhopal: Indore trader Raja Raghuvanshi (30)’s decomposed body was recovered near a waterfall at Sohra, more than 50 kilometers from Shillong in Meghalaya on Monday, as many as 10 days after he along with his wife Sonam (27) went missing during their honeymoon trip to this North-East state.
The information sent out a shockwave to the trader’s family, relatives and friends. Sonam is still missing.
Though post-mortem report is yet to come, police are investigating the death looking into all the possibilities and have not ruled out the possibility of murder too. A murder case has been registered in the case, according to police.

The newlywed couple was on a honeymoon trip to the hilly region when they went missing on May 23. The scooty that they were riding was recovered a few days later but there was no sign of the couple till recovery of the dead body of the trader.
A drone helped the search team to spot the body near Wei Sawdong Falls. It captured photos of the trader’s legs which led to the search team to get down to the spot.
Search operation for Sonam is still going on.
CM, MADHYA PRADESH EXPRESSES GRIEF

Madhya Pradesh chief minister Dr Mohan Yadav expressed grief over death of the trader.
He wrote on microblogging platform X, “The news regarding dead body of Raja Raghuvanshi Ji, a resident of Indore, who had gone to visit Meghalaya after marriage, being found is very sad. The search for his wife Mrs. Sonam is on.”
He said, “My deepest condolences to the bereaved family in this difficult time. I pray to God to grant peace to the departed soul and give him a place in his lotus feet.”
As per local media outlet Highland Post, police drone spotted the dead body in a deep gorge below the Wei Sawdong Parking Lot at Riat Arliang at 11.48 am.
Search operation for Sonam involves the local police, State Disaster Response Force, Special Operation Team and the West Jaintia Hills District Adventure Mountaineering Club.
SIT FORMED
As per Highland Post report, Meghalaya police have instituted a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the death of Raja Raghuvanshi.
The media outlet has reported that East Khasi Hills superintendent of police, Vivek Syiem said, “The body of Raja was identified by relatives through a distinctive tattoo on his right hand that reads, “Raja.” A lady’s white shirt, a strip of Pentra 40 medicine, a part of LCD screen of a Vivo mobile phone and smart watch were recovered from the body.”
The SP said that due to the steep and inaccessible terrain, the body was taken to the parking lot for a magisterial inquest, which was conducted by executive magistrate Adiel R Kynta between 3:30 and 4 pm in the presence of independent witnesses from the area.
The body was later sent NEIGRIHMS, Shillong, for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.
MURDER NOT RULED OUT
“The police are actively investigating the case, and no possibilities, including foul play, have been ruled out at this stage,” the SP said, adding, “A case of murder is being registered. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) is being formed to conduct the investigation.”
