    16th Parole To Gurmeet Ram Raheem: People Vent Their Ire On Social Media

    Bhopal: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini was talking of women empowerment merely 10 days back but on Tuesday (May 26, 2026) rape convict Gurmeet Ram Raheem Singh was released from the jail he was lodged in yet another time on parole granted by the state’s “competent authority”.

    This happens to be the 16th parole granted to this controversial godman by Haryana government in the last more than five years since October 2020.

    Gurmeet Ram Rahim has been undergoing sentence of 20 years for raping two woman disciples, ten years each for the two counts of rape charges, since August 2017, as per the special CBI court judgment delivered in August 2017.

    He walked out of Rohtak’s Sunaria Jail on Tuesday (May 26, 2026) and reached his ashram in Sirsa amid tight security. He is supposed to be confined to this ashram during the parole period, as per media reports from Rohtak.

    Violent protests after the jail sentence to Ram Raheem in 2017, claimed several lives and left many injured.

    Gurmeet Ram Raheem has been getting parole since October 2020 despite the fact each time he is granted parole there is a massive uproar by people venting their ire and frunstration on social media and questioning the sensitivity of the BJP government in Haryana towards women.

    Haryana BJP government has seen two chief ministers during the period but there is no change in situation as far as the state government’s liberal attitude in granting parole to the rape convict is concerned.

    Nayab Singh Saini replaced Manohar Lal Khattar as the chief minister of the state on March 12, 2024. Later, he got a second term on October 17, 2024 with BJP retaining power in the assembly elections.

    Regular parole to convicts in Haryana is granted under Haryana Good Conduct Prisoners (Temporary Release) Act, by competent authorities nominated by the state government such as divisional commissioner, district magistrate or jail superintendent.

    Reactions from a good number of people to the repeated parole to the rapist have gone viral but there doesn’t seem any reaction from the state government or any kind of assurance that there would be no repetition of this anti-women stand by the government.

    Senior journalist Rajdeep Sardesai posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, “Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh (Dera Sacha Sauda chief) granted parole once again, this time for 30 days. It’s the 16th time he has been out on parole since his conviction in August 2017.”

    He said, “He is serving a 20-year sentence for rape. Meanwhile likes of Umar Khaled have stayed in jail for almost 6 years without even a trial commencing. Yeh hai JUSTICE system: Wonder what our Lordships would pontificate on next!”

    Anger and frustration of people can be gauged from the fact a Twitter user sarcastically demanded that Gurmeet Ram Raheem be appointed as minister for women’s welfare and safety.

    Varun Verma who claims to be “Indian entrepreneur” posted on X, “Why doesn’t the RSS/BJP government just declare him innocent? Perhaps, milord should start punishing the girls who dared to level charges against him. This rapist godman seems qualified enough to be appointed as an ‘honourable’ minister for women’s welfare and safety.The hypocrisy is nauseating.”

    While reviewing a five-year action plan of Woman and Child Development Department of Haryana government on May 15, 2026, chief minister Nayab Singh Saini reportedly said empowering women and children was one of the top priorities of his government.

    He also said his government was taking steps to build such an inclusive society in which women could live with dignity and there was no violence against them.
