Law graduate and civil judge aspirant Archana Tiwari (29) who disappeared during a train journey from Indore to Katni on August 7 was traced near Indo–Nepal border on Tuesday night as many as 12 days after her disappearance.

Police say Archna Tiwari herself had staged her disappearance to avoid family pressure to get married to a patwari.

Disappearance of Archna Tiwari whose bag was found in the train compartment she was travelling in and phone switched off on August 7 put the police on tenterhooks with apprehension of her kidnapping or accident during the journey.

A number of teams involving as many as 70 personnel with joint operation by MP police and government railway police (GRP) were formed to trace the girl who boarded Indore-Bilaspur Narmada Express in Indore on August 7 to visit hometown Katni for Rakshabandhan. Her last location was found at Rani Kamlapati railway station in Bhopal from where she had called her aunt about 10.15 pm on August 7.

Her bag was found at Umaria but she was nowhere to be seen in the coach (B-3) when the train reached there. She didn’t reach Katni either triggering off panic in her family who lodged a complaint to the police and sought help to trace her fearing she might have fallen prey to the trap of any human trafficking gang.

According to police, CCTV footage of every railway station en route and outside the stations was looked into to find out any clue to trace her but to no avail. However, the call details record of her phone number led the investigators to a police constable in Gwalior who, when questioned, admitted that he was in touch with the girl for the past two years and he had also arranged a train ticket for her.

The police constable denied having any role in any foul play related to disappearance of the girl.

According to police, the girl got help from two friends- Saransh who runs a drone startup and Tejinder, a driver. She left her bag on the train abandoned to stage a scene that she might have fallen off the coach somewhere. She had Tejinder to dispose of her phone in the forests near Itarsi to mislead police. She and Saransh chose such a route for journey which had no no toll booths and, hence, no chance of being caught in CCTV.
She used WhatsApp calls to be in touch with those who helped her in her disappearance. Saransh  purchased a new phone for her and the SIM card was registered in his father’s name. Initially, they stayed in Shujalpur but to avoid being traced by police they moved to Hyderabad, then traveled via Jodhpur and Delhi to Kathmandu, Nepal. Saransh later returned to Indore, while Archana remained hidden.

According to police, Archna was located in Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh close to the Nepal border when she opened her Instagram account on Tuesday. Later, she was brought back to Bhopal  by police for questioning and medical examination.

According to police, so far there was no crime case against the girl. However, they are looking into all the legal aspects of the case.
