Bhopal/Indore: More than 4000 kg of toxic waste transported from erstwhile Union Carbide factory in Bhopal to Peethampur industrial area in Dhar district was disposed till Saturday night, as per the information coming from the administration in Dhar and Indore.
Commissioner, Indore division Deepak Singh said as much as 3240 kg of waste had been disposed till 3 pm on Saturday and it was being done as per the standard operating procedure (SOP) regarding burning of the waste.

According to the divisional commissioner, about 3.6 tonnes of lime, 1.8 tonnes of activated carbon and 24 kg of sulphur were used for cleaning the flue gases so far.
“About 400 to 500 litres of diesel is being consumed per hour for waste combustion. About 21000 litres have been consumed till 3 pm (on March 1). During the combustion of waste, the emission from the chimney is being continuously monitored, for which online continuous emission monitoring system (CEMS) is operated. The emission from the chimney is found to be within the prescribed standard limit”, says an official release from district Public Relations office, Indore quoting the divisional commissioner Deepak Singh.

The release says, “As per the order passed by the High Court Jabalpur bench on February 18, 2025 on writ petition no. 2802/2004 (Alok Pratap Singh vs Union of India and others), the first trial run of Union Carbide waste is being done from February 27, 2025 in the incinerator operated by M/s Pithampur Industrial Waste Management Pvt. Ltd. Pithampur, District Dhar.”
Divisional commissioner Deepak Singh informed that feeding (of the waste) was going on at the rate of 135 kg/hour from 3 pm on February 28, 2025.
“Disposal of waste is being done as per the SOP prescribed by the Central Pollution Control Board. During disposal, monitoring and surveillance work is being done by the officials of Central Pollution Control Board and Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board”, said the commissioner.
As per the administration, emission from the chimney is found to be within the prescribed standard limit.
