During festivals, special care should be taken that no incident of indecent behaviour takes place against women. Strict action should be taken against those who misbehave with women: DGP Kailash Makwana to police officials across the state

Bhopal: Disc jockeys (DJs) playing objectionable songs and sharing of provocative messages by people on social media platforms during upcoming festivals- Holi, Rangpanchmi and Ramzan- will be under police department’s strict surveillance as per instructions issued by the director general of police, Madhya Pradesh Kailash Makwana to police officials across the state on Tuesday evening.

The DGP’s instructions to the authorities came during a meeting through video conferencing with police officials across the state who include all ADGs/IGs, commissioners of police Bhopal and Indore, range DIGs and all superintendents of police.

Senior officers including special DG CID Pawan Srivastava, ADG (Intelligence) Yogesh Deshmukh and IG (Law & Order) Anshuman Singh were also present in the meeting, as per an official release.

As per the DGP’s instructions police department’s social media cells constituted in every district will keep an eye of messages being circulated on social media platforms. Police will keep eye on anti-social elements indulging in hooliganism and disturbing social harmony in the state through drones and CCTV cameras.

The DGP’s meeting with and instructions to police officials assume significance not only in view of the festivals but also in view of the recent violence witnessed in Mhow during celebrations on Indian team’s victory to lift ICC Champions Trophy in Dubai on Sunday night.

DGP Kailash Makwana said, “In view of festivals it should be ensured that the police arrangements are foolproof. The SPs should ensure adequate deployment of police force at all sensitive places and routes. They should also seek cooperation from village/town defence committees and also village kotwars. Also, peace committee meetings should also be organized at various levels and intelligence at the beat level should be most active.”

The DGP also instructed the police officials to maintain communication and coordination with religious leaders.

He said during festivals, special care should be taken that no incident of indecent behaviour takes place against women. Strict action should be taken against those who misbehave with women.

He emphasised on police’s strict vigil on illegal liquor traders and anti-social elements.

“It should be ensured that licensed liquor shops open and close at the time prescribed by the government. At the same time, instruct DJs to not play objectionable songs. Strict preventive action should be taken against anti-social elements. Senior officers should make a list of all sensitive areas and hotspots and visit the same to review the security arrangements”, he added.

He said strict security arrangements should be maintained in the mixed population areas and also on procession routes.

He directed the officials to monitor the celebrations through CCTV and drone cameras and to keep Dial 100 PRV ready at important places. Along with this, he also directed the officials to take effective action on crimes related to minor act, illegal liquor, illegal arms and narcotics.

He instructed the officials to have enhanced surveillance at those places which had witnessed communal incidents and disputes in the past. The mischievous elements and those known for creating disturbances should be brought under special surveillance. The procession routes should also be under special surveillance and heavy police force should be deployed to ensure there is no untoward incident. Drones and videography should be used for surveillance.
