Bhopal: In a major announcement aimed at giving relief to Fastag users union minister for Road Transport and Highways in India Nitin Gadkari offered an annual pass priced at Rs 3000 for 200 trips.
Later, the minister clarified that ‘one toll plaza means one trip’ and that Rs 3000 paid will amount to saving /at least Rs 7000.

The union minister said on the microblogging and social networking site X on Wednesday afternoon, “In a transformative step towards hassle-free highway travel, we are introducing a FASTag-based Annual Pass priced at ₹3,000, effective from 15th August 2025. Valid for one year from the date of activation or up to 200 trips—whichever comes first—this pass is designed exclusively for non-commercial private vehicles such as cars, jeeps, and vans.”
He further said, “The Annual Pass will enable seamless and cost-effective travel across National Highways throughout the country. A dedicated link for activation and renewal will soon be made available on the Rajmarg Yatra App as well as on the official websites of NHAI and MoRTH.”
He added, “This policy addresses long-standing concerns regarding toll plazas located within a 60 km range and simplifies toll payments through a single, affordable transaction. By reducing wait times, easing congestion, and minimizing disputes at toll plazas, the Annual Pass aims to deliver a faster and smoother travel experience for millions of private vehicle owners.”
The minister’s announcement on X drew applause from people in general but there were concerns voiced and questions raised by a section of people tagged with Gadkari’s post on the site.
One X user said, “Many are asking what is considered one trip in the above tweet. One complete journey (from entry to exit) on a toll highway is counted as one trip.

So, the FASTag-based Annual Pass worth ₹3,000 will remain valid for: Either: 1 year from the date of activation Or: Until you complete 200 trips, whichever comes first.
For example, if you are travelling from Bangaluru to Hyderabad, the one-way journey covering all toll plazas along the route will be considered one trip. A round trip (up & down) will therefore count as two trips.”
There were several such posts which suggested that the minister’s first post on the Fastag annual pass for Rs 3000 led many people to believe that irrespective of the number of journeys in a year that have to pay Rs 3000 only.
Later, in a video shared on X Gadkari said one trip meant one toll plaza. Hence, 200 trips meant 200 toll plazas.
