An IPS officer of 2001 batch Pramod Verma is presently inspector general (IG) of police of Sagar Zone and he is also holding an additional charge of the director, Jawaharlal Nehru Police Academy (JNPA), Sagar. He will now be IG of Jabalpur zone. He will, of course, continue to head the SIT. IG, Chambal zone, DIG, Chambal range and SPs Datia and Katni were transferred given displeasure of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav over their conduct.
Bhopal: Chief of the special investigation team (SIT) constituted on May 19 as per the Supreme Court’s order to probe Tribal Affairs minister Vijay Shah’s alleged offence, Pramod Verma was shifted to Jabalpur on Sunday among 10 IPS officers who were transferred by an order of the Home department. The transfer will not affect his position of the SIT chief and he will, of course, continue to head the investigation team.
At least four of the officers IG and DIG, Chambal and SPs Datia nd Katni were removed due to displeasure of Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav over their conduct.
Vijay Shah in his speech on May 12 termed Colonel Sofiya Qureshi as sister of terrorists who had killed 26 civilians including 25 tourists in Baisaran valley of Pahalgam on April 22 sparking nationwide outrage. After High Court taking suo moto cognizance of the matter and directing police to lodge FIR, Supreme Court on a petition of Shah ordered constitution of a three-member SIT to look into the alleged offence.

An IPS officer of 2006 batch Chandrashekhar Solanki who is presently inspector general of Special Armed Force, Indore range will now replace Pramod Verma as IGP of Sagar Zone and hold the additional charge of director, JNPA, Sagar.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav posted on X, “The Superintendent of Police of Katni and the Superintendent of Police of Datia and the IG, DIG Chambal Range behaved in a manner which is regrettable in public service. Hence, instructions have been given to remove them with immediate effect.”
State BJP president VD Sharma posted on X, “The violation of the ideal conduct in public service by Katni Superintendent of Police is highly condemnable. I had spoken to CM @DrMohanYadav51 ji regarding action on his misbehavior. I thank the Chief Minister for taking cognizance of the matter and removing the Superintendent of Police with immediate effect.”
Unlike IG, DIG, Chambal and SPs Datia and Katni there is no mention of any reason from any quarters behind Verma’s shifting from Sagar to Jabalpur. However, it has not gone down well with certain Opposition leaders.
Samajvadi Party spokesperson Yash Bharatiya criticised the transfers sharing on X, “SIT was formed after the order of the Supreme Court….Pramod Verma, the head of the SIT formed to investigate the case of cabinet minister Vijay Shah, has also been transferred….From Datia to Katni, the police and administration are fighting between themselves. Remember that Chief Minister is the Home minister.”
As per the order, Sushant Kumar Saxena (2005 batch), IG of Chambal zone, Morena has been called back to police headquarters. Sachin Kumar Atulkar (2007) presently DIG/IG Chhindwara with additional charge of Jabalpur zone will replace Saxena as IG, Chambal zone, Morena.
Morena sees another transfer. Kumar Saurabh (2007), DIG/IG, Chambal range, Morena has been brought back to police headquarters as IG Anusuchit Jati and Janjati Kalyan (AJK). Sunil Kumar Jain (2009), DIG, Sagar range will now be DIG, Chambal range, Morena.
Morena has been Lok Sabha constituency of the state assembly Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar before he stepped down from the union cabinet to contest the state assembly elections in 2023 from Dimni constituency in Morena district.
Superintendent of police (SP), Datia Veerendra Kumar Mishra (2012) will now be assistant inspector general (AIG) at police headquarters, Bhopal. Suraj Verma (2013), presently commander 1st battalion, Special Armed Force (SAF), Indore will replace Mishra in Datia as SP.
Superintendent of police (SP), Katni Abhijeet Ranjan (2014) has been shifted to police headquarters as assistant inspector general (AIG). Deputy commissioner of police (DCP), zone-2, urban police, Indore Abhinav Vishwakarma (2019) will replace Ranjan as SP, Katni.
Abhijeet Ranjan was said to have earned the wrath of the Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav in connection with family dispute of a lady DySP.
As far as Datia SP and IG and DIG, Chambal are concerned it is reported that the IG Sushant Kumar Saxena was upset with the SP over arrangements at Datia airport on Saturday ahead of virtual inauguration of the airport by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Saxena expressed his displeasure with the SP in public and both were involved in arguments. Narottam Mishra was present at the airport. Later, the incident was reported to the chief minister.
Like Morena, Datia too is a politically sensitive district given the fact former Home minister Narottam Mishra represented Datia assembly constituency for 15 years from 2008 onwards before being defeated by the Congress candidate in 2023 assembly constituency.
