Tampa, Florida: Ram Kamal Mukherjee’s film Binodiini Ekti Natir Upakhyan dominated the South Asian International Film Festival of Florida (SAIFFF), securing three prestigious awards: Best Director, Best Actress, and Audience Choice Best Film, as per decision taken by the jury.
The biopic, which celebrates Bengal’s iconic theatre figure Binodini Dasi, mesmerized audiences at the NCG Theatre in Tampa, selling out tickets rapidly and earning standing ovations for its engaging storytelling and meticulous historical recreation, as per a press release.

Rukmini Maitra won the Best Actress Award for her captivating portrayal of Binodini Dasi, while Ram Kamal Mukherjee received the Best Director Award, marking his first international recognition for the film.

The Audience Choice Best Film Award was given to producers Prateek Chakravorty and Dev Adhikari, acknowledging their visionary support for the project.

Bollywood actor Aryan Vaid accepted the Best Director Award on Mukherjee’s behalf, praising his work and noting the well-deserved recognition.
“I am thrilled to see Ram Kamal’s Bengali debut garner such prestigious recognition. Having known him since his days at Stardust magazine and witnessing his National Award-winning success with Ek Duaa, this moment is well deserved. I was also delighted to see my co-actor Rahul Bose feature in the film. Congratulations to Ram, Rukmini, and the entire team,” said Vaid in a press statement.
Ram Kamal Mukherjee expressed gratitude, highlighting the international acknowledgment of Rukmini Maitra’s performance and the producers’ faith in the project.
Expressing gratitude in an official statement to US media, Ram Kamal Mukherjee remarked, “Winning the Best Director Award at SAIFFF is profoundly special. Seeing Rukmini Maitra’s hard work acknowledged on an international stage is immensely gratifying. I am also elated for my producers, Prateek and Dev, whose faith and investment made this challenging project a reality.”
The film premiered in India on January 23, 2025, and its SAIFFF screening marked its U.S. debut.
