Anuradha Shankar, a distinguished Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the 1990 batch, allotted to Madhya Pradesh cadre, has had a stellar career spanning over three decades, marked by key postings including SP Vidisha and Hoshangabad districts, DIG Bhopal range, IG Indore zone, IG Intelligence, ADG Administration and Director of Madhya Pradesh Police Academy before being elevated to and retiring at the rank of Director General of Police. Her exemplary service earned her the President's Police Medals for Meritorious and Distinguished Service. While serving as DIG Bhopal she was awarded the Gallantry Medal by the President of India for busting the central weapon's factory run by Maoists. A staunch believer in Gandhian values, Anuradha Shankar was renowned for her professionalism, unwavering stance against crimes and strong advocacy for gender issues and police accountability.

Between and beyond these two tragedies, over 35000 police personnel have lost their lives in the course of service since India gained Independence. Hot Springs to Pulwama , Bastar to Gadhchiroli, Mumbai to Hyderabad, they are pitted against an enemy who shares the land, the language, the government.
